Job Title: Senior Research Specialist I (full-time, multiple positions)

The Julis-Rabinowitz Center for Public Policy & Finance based in Princeton’s School of Public & International affairs promotes research and teaching at the intersection of finance, macroeconomics and policy under its director Prof. Atif Mian. We seek to hire talented and motivated predoctoral research specialists to assist economics and finance faculty working at the center.

The position involves empirical analysis (including more sophisticated statistical modelling) and could also involve theoretical work including coding of model simulations. The position is structured to help individuals prepare for their Ph.D. and gain valuable research experience. In addition to working closely with faculty, senior research specialists participate in the vibrant academic life of Princeton University, including auditing classes, attending seminars, and interacting with undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at the Center.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Applied Math, Computer Science, or significant advanced coursework in these areas
  • Knowledge of statistics/econometrics
  • Some demonstration of independent analytical thinking, e.g. course paper, undergraduate thesis, or independent research work.
  • Experience with statistical programming such as  STATA and/or R

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent analytical, empirical, research and writing skills
  • Experience coding in R, Python, or Matlab
  • Experience with LaTex, Unix/Linux

This position is ideal for graduating seniors or master’s degree students interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in Economics or Finance. Previous research specialists have gone on to top Ph.D. programs including at Stanford, MIT, Northwestern, London School of Economics, Columbia, NYU, Barcelona GSE, and U. of Maryland.

This is typically a two-year position with renewal after the first year. The start date is summer 2022, or soon thereafter. The position is based in Princeton, NJ.
