The Global Poverty Research Lab is looking to hire multiple RAs this year, for projects led by Professors Dean Karlan and Chris Udry, and will be based at Northwestern University. This is an excellent opportunity for applicants who:

  • Want to explore their interests before deciding/embarking on a PhD program in Economics, Public Policy, and adjacent fields. In the last two years RAs have gone onto PhD programs at Harvard Economics, Harvard Public Policy, Wharton, and UCSD. Before that, the professors’ RAs have gone onto programs at MIT, Yale, etc.
  • Want to explore careers in international development. RAs go into MPP programs, research organizations in more senior roles, etc.

This mix of interests among the RAs, coupled with diverse backgrounds, at the lab makes for a fantastic, lively workplace. Moreover, RAs are encouraged to maintain work-life balance and research managers regularly check in with RAs about their workload to help with this. This is in contrast to some stories we hear about other RAships.

RAs get tuition benefits to take courses at Northwestern, regularly attend economics and related seminars, get to build connections with current PhD students in the Economics department and Kellogg, and enjoy the cities of Evanston and Chicago! (there are, of course, other staff benefits too)

Interested students can apply to the lab at the following link:  https://www.povertyactionlab.org/careers/research-analyst-global-poverty-research-lab-northwestern-university-job-103920.

If you have any questions, you can contact Amol Singh Raswan, a Columbia Grad (MA in Economics) and current RA at the Lab, at ar3950@columbia.edu.
