Every year, the Center on Japanese Economy and Business has been invited to nominate a Columbia student for the Mitsubishi UFJ Trust Scholarship Foundation for one year of undergraduate or graduate study at a Japanese university. Since the COVID-19 pandemic and after a gap in sending students because of Columbia University’s policies around travel in response to the pandemic until 2023, our materials have been updated to direct students to resources about compliance with Columbia University’s policies for travel.

The Foundation has always accepted our nominees. While in principle, priority is given to students interested in business or science, in practice, students can be from any field of study, and a command of Japanese is not required to apply for the scholarship.

Students who want to be considered to be the Columbia nominee for the scholarship should submit the application form to the Center on Japanese Economy and Business (Attn.: JP Perez) no later than Thursday, February 29, 2024. We will interview applicants in early March to determine a nominee. The results will be announced soon thereafter. Please note that the successful applicant will need to make a separate application for admission to the Japanese university or college of his/her choice.
