The PhD Panel is the main event of the year for the Econ division of the Econ Society. In this
event, we will invite 3-4 Econ PhD candidates who work on different fields and topics and we
will ask them to talk about their career path, research, and other related topics. We will orient the
conversation towards how Undergrads should prepare to apply for an Econ PhD. We propose the
following topics that they can cover:

● What is Econ Research?
● Why and how you should do Research as an Undergraduate?
● How to build relationships with Professors (future Recommenders)
● What coursework to take and what admission requirements to expect
● Paths to apply to an Econ PhD (right out of college, pre-doc, industry-adjacent field, etc)
● Where to apply (with an emphasis on specific fields)
● Where is Econ research moving towards in their specific field
● Talk about alternative paths to a PhD and how to make sure that you really want to do an
Econ PhD
