The Office of Academic Diversity and Inclusion (OADI) invites all MA and PhD students in GSAS to apply for membership to the 2023-2024 OADI Research Collective on Race, Labor and Capitalism. The OADI Research Collective is an annual, multidisciplinary, cohort-based program comprising GSAS doctoral students and other Columbia graduate students whose work focuses on communities affected by persistent marginalization and exclusion. This year, the research collective is narrowing its focus on the intersections between race, labor, and capitalism, with the hope of supporting students working on research projects that intersect with any or all of these themes. We are particularly seeking applicants who have a research project—or a chapter or segment of a larger project—that will be nearly finished by the end of the Spring Semester.

The Collective invites all applicants who are interested in a supportive peer-based group to  discuss ideas, workshop drafts, and engage new scholarship relating to race, labor and capitalism from a variety of disciplinary standpoints. Participants will attend regular meetings and collectively support one another in developing their respective projects from December 2023 to May 2024. Collective members can use the space to develop and complete dissertation chapters, articles for publication, or research-based artistic projects. To support the Research Collective, OADI will provide space to meet and work together, food and refreshments at all meetings, and workshops on public scholarship and writing for broad audiences. We encourage projects that seek to find creative ways to present their research findings to a diverse public beyond the academy. GSAS students from all disciplines are welcome to apply, with particular emphasis on students who are already working on a related research project.
