The LDI Crisis in the UK
Monday, December 2 | 4:30–5:30 p.m.
IAB 1512
In the fall of 2022, the UK suffered a severe decline in the value of government debt and its currency. Though it was successfully interrupted by the central bank, it caused the resignations of the finance minister and the prime minister. What lessons can other countries and their central bankers learn from this episode? Ben Broadbent, George McGovern Visiting Professor at SIPA and the Bank of England’s former Deputy Governor for Monetary Policy discusses the crisis and its central takeaways.
