A Panel Discussion Featuring

Alan Krueger, Princeton University
Robert Solow, Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Moderated by Eric Verhoogen, Columbia University
The nature of work arrangements is changing in the U.S. and other countries. More and more workers are employed as independent contractors and freelancers (receiving 1099 tax forms), often “on-demand” and organized through digital platforms like Uber, Taskrabbit and others. What is behind this trend? What are the implications for workers and for the broader economy? What are the implications for public policy? This panel of leading experts will discuss these important issues.
Sponsored by the Program for Economic Research and the School of International and Public Affairs
