Curriculum

 

The Master of Arts degree in Economics admits approximately 75-85 students per year.  Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will have the tools to conduct applied economic research. Specifically, graduates will be able to:

  •    Take a rigorous, quantitative approach to solving economic problems
  •    Build and test economic models, using sophisticated economics tools
  •    Advance professionally and to compete for well-paying jobs across a broad spectrum of industries and sectors
  •    Apply to and enroll in a doctoral program

The M.A. program requires successful completion of eight core courses and at least nine credits from elective courses. Students are expected to fulfill all the requirements for the degree over the course of three semesters. Course requirements for the M.A. degree will be satisfied by taking four core classes in the fall, three core classes in spring, one core course in the fall of second year and a total of at least nine credits from elective courses over the course of all three semesters.

In addition, each student is required to write a research paper as a capstone project of the program. Students are expected to produce a research paper that demonstrates their ability to think originally and convey results clearly.

Fall Semester:

  • ECON 5410: Mathematical Methods for Economists
  • ECON 5211: Microeconomic Analysis I
  • ECON 5215: Macroeconomic Analysis I
  • ECON 5411: Econometrics I

Spring Semester:

  • ECON 5212: Microeconomic Analysis II
  • ECON 5216: Macroeconomic Analysis II
  • ECON 5412: Econometrics II

Second Fall Semester:

  • ECON 5120: Research in Economics
