Creating your Student Page on the Economics Website

Accessing your page

  • log into the PhD Student Profiles dashboard:

note:

You can also access dashboard via the department page: Ph.D > Current Students > Resources

Then navigate to Career/Job Market > Student Web Pages

 

Once Logged In 

  • You should be in the PhD Student Profiles:

If not, click PhD Student Profiles on the left sidebar (reference above image)

  •  Click Add New to create your student page

note:

– if your student page already exists, follow the same steps as above to get to the PhD Student Profiles page

– then locate your name and hover your cursor / rollover your profile and click on Edit

 

Filling Out Your information

The following items just provides general guidance where necessary. Feel free to skim through if you get stuck and have any questions.

  • Title text box, enter your full name as you would like it to appear in a Google search result, browser bookmarks, etc.

example: Jayne E. Smith

  •  First Name:

note: If you have an anglicized name, feel free to include it in parenthesis in the first name section

example: Jayne (Janet)

  • Last Name: (surname/family name)
  • Email: please enter your *@columbia.edu email address

  • Title: Default to PhD Candidate until you are on the job market

  • Main Advisor: Enter the name of your Advisor(s) Sponsor, followed by their email in the second field

note: repeat the process if you have additional Sponsors

  • Biography: This field is open HTML for you to put whatever you wish.

  • Photo: you are free to use whatever photo you’d like. For best results, we recommend you use or crop a photo to Portrait mode.

– Click the Select image button, the websites media library will show. You can upload your own photo or select a photo if already shown.

– Once your image is uploaded, click Select to confirm.

– a small preview will appear under the Photo section

  • CV: follow the same process, click on Select file. You can then upload or select your .pdf if it has already been uploaded.

 

Field of Interest   

  • Use the listings shown and either copy&paste, or type them out in the field below

– note: example text can be found in the text field in grey

 

Job Market Paper

For the Job Market Paper, you will enter three items – the paper title, the paper abstract, and the paper itself in PDF format. The PhD placement homepage will link to the PDF of your paper.

If your Job Market Paper is not ready to be uploaded but you do have an abstract, in addition to filling out the abstract in the text field, please upload a PDF document of your abstract. The PhD placement homepage will then link to the PDF of your abstract.

Research   |   Teaching

  • Research: this field is an optional, open HTML field.

– List working papers, works in progress, refereeing.

See faculty webpages for examples.

  • Teaching: also an optional, open HTML field.

– List courses, most recent first. (Recommended format below.)

– You may also list other student advising or relevant teaching experiences.

Example: Open HTML allows you to manipulate the text like a word processing app

 

  • Content Permissions: No changes are necessary in this section and it can be ignored

 

  • Page Links To: This can be ignored and left as Its normal wordpress URL

 

Once Your Finish Filling Out Your information

  • Once you are finished editing:

– you can Save Draft,

Preview your page

– And you can Publish when you’re ready

note: although visibility is set to Public, no one but you will be able to view your page until you Publish it. The page will remain in draft format until you hit Publish.

You can confirm by either logging out, or using Incognito/Private window on your browser, and trying to view your page URL.  It will not show to logged out users.

 

Updating Your Page | Making Edits After Its Published

  • To edit your page after it’s been published, return to the dashboard using the link:

https://econ.columbia.edu/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=e

  • or by going to Ph.D > Current Students > Resources, navigate to Career/Job Market > Student Web Pages
  • Find your profile name, then rollover your name with the cursor and click Edit
