The Econometric Institute (EI) at Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) invites PhD students specializing in Econometrics to submit a paper for the 1st Annual International Econometrics PhD Conference taking place on June 3-4, 2019, at the EI. The aim of this two-day event is to bring together PhD candidates from universities around the world specializing in Econometrics to present and discuss their research.
The conference provides a great opportunity to meet other high-profile PhD students, and to learn
about Econometrics research conducted at different institutions.
The PhD conference is part of a series of events taking place at the Econometric Institute in the first
week of June 2019. On June 5-6, the Tinbergen Econometrics Lectures are hosted. Information on
previous lectures can be found online. This year, the keynote speaker is Serena Ng. On June 7, a Workshop is organized on a theme related to the topic of the Tinbergen Lectures. Information on last year’s workshop can be found online.

Papers should be submitted by Friday, April 12, 2019. High-profile projects that are in an advanced
phase are also welcome. The papers will be evaluated by a scientific committee consisting of faculty
members of the Econometric Institute. The presenters should prepare a talk of 40 minutes which will be followed by a 10-15 minutes discussion by invited faculty members specializing in Econometrics, from universities in the Netherlands. Successful applicants are eligible for partial/full funding of
transportation costs. Accommodation will be arranged by the Econometric Institute (including the days
of the Tinbergen Lectures and/or Workshop).

About the Econometric Institute:
The Econometric Institute at Erasmus University Rotterdam has a strong research tradition in
econometrics, statistics, data science and operations research. It is the first research institute in the field of econometrics in the world. Jan Tinbergen (first Nobel Prize winner in Economics), and Henri Theil founded the Institute in 1956, and “marked the beginning of undergraduate programs in econometrics at universities in the Netherlands”. “With the leading role of Rotterdam, universities in Amsterdam, Groningen, Tilburg and Maastricht followed and established their programs in econometrics”, (Journal of Econometrics, Vol:138, Issue:1 (2007), Guest Editorial). Today, the Econometric Institute offers several Bachelor and Master programs in econometrics and a substantial number of well-known econometricians have their roots in Rotterdam. The Econometric Institute is part of an active research community within the Erasmus School of Economics – one of the largest and most successful economics schools in Europe. The EI is also part of the research networks and graduate programs: Tinbergen Institute and ERIM.
