Good morning,

PDT Partners, a quantitative investment firm led for academics and scientists, is  hosting a virtual information session on Tuesday October 22nd, to speak with PhDs and Postdocs about a career in quantitative research at PDT.

They’re looking for creative, ambitious, and quirky researchers from all academic backgrounds who love digging into challenging, data-driven problems, to join our collaborative team. Prior experience in finance isn’t expected or required.

Their research team applies rigorous scientific approaches to build models that trade autonomously on the markets. Much like in academic research, PDT Partners views the markets as their laboratory, constantly testing hypotheses and refining their understanding.

Their researchers are scientists, mathematicians, economists and engineers with PhDs, postdocs, and former faculty members in a wide variety of disciplines. They have a collaborative and supportive environment where they strive to be competitive as one of the best investment managers in the world.

Please see below for more information about the general session.

Date: Tuesday, October 22nd

Time: 6:00 – 7:00pm ET

RSVP: https://pdtpartners.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_3ERaZPvTQVGn0srethLCdQ

Bring a friend: Don’t hesitate to share our invitation with other PhD candidates and postdocs!

More about the event:

Curious what it means to be a Quantitative Researcher at PDT Partners? Meet PDT researchers in-person to learn about their journey to quantitative finance from academia. They will discuss their career path, the interesting work that challenges them and their decision to come to the quantitative finance industry. Learn how a team of scientists, mathematicians and engineers with PhDs in Physics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Math, Economics and Electrical Engineering develop trading strategies using scientifically rigorous approaches in an open and collaborative culture.

PDT Partners will discuss how PDT and quantitative research compares to other industries, their academic research culture and how researchers use the skills from their graduate program to tackle interesting and challenging problems. This will be an interactive discussion and you will hear directly from PDTers!

Here are the PDT researchers on our panel:

John

John holds a PhD in Economics from Princeton University and a Bachelors in Mathematics and Economics from Tufts University. While in academia, John’s research focused on studying the impact of India’s Employment Guarantee Scheme on migration and wages, and on designing optimal contracts for micro-finance loans. His research has been published in peer-reviewed outlets including the American Economic Review, American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, and the Journal of Development Economics. Prior to joining PDT, John worked with the global macro group at Highbridge Capital Management.

Max

Max was an Associate Professor of Statistics in the Department of Statistics at Carnegie Mellon University since 2014. Prior to joining CMU, Max received his Ph.D. in Statistics from Stanford University, and a B.S. in Physics and Applied Mathematics at Caltech. His research prior to joining PDT focused on applied and methodological questions at the interface of machine learning and statistical inference, and included collaborations in genetics, cellular biology, neuroscience, and the history of English literature.
