Congratulations François Gerard, Awarded National Science Foundation Research Grant!
François Gerard of Columbia’s Department of Economics was awarded the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) division of social and economic sciences grant for a project titled, ‘Unemployment Insurance Schemes in Developing Countries.’
The award seeks to enhance the understanding of individual, social, and organizational behavior by creating and sustaining social science infrastructure, and by supporting disciplinary and interdisciplinary research that advances knowledge in the social and economic sciences.
Professor Gerard’s research project will study the most efficient form of unemployment support using a large data set on the employment history of over 400,000 workers.
François Gerard is Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics. His research focuses on public economics and development, in particular, the design and impact of government policies in middle-income and developing countries. He holds a Masters in Economics and a complementary degree in Economics and Social Ethics from the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium, and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California at Berkeley.
