Chicago Booth Professor Günter Hitsch seeks a highly skilled and motivated individual for a fulltime Research Professional position for a period of at least one year but ideally two years. The Research Professional will work with Professor Hitsch and other faculty members at Chicago Booth and the University of Chicago Economics Department. The research projects are at the boundary between Business Analytics/Quantitative Marketing and Industrial Organization.

The topics include:

  1. Improving methods to measure the causal short and long-run effect of advertising on consumer demand
  2. Understanding and improving high-dimension pricing decisions 3. New approaches to conduct sophisticated experiments to measure the treatment effect of targeted forms of marketing such as digital ads or direct mail The research projects utilize high-dimensional data that record transactions, prices, offline and online advertising, and other marketing interventions. The work requires strong data science skills to prepare, maintain, manipulate, and analyze the data. The Research Professional will also conduct extensive statistical analyses.

A successful applicant will not only perform assigned tasks, but eventually develop increasing levels of independent thinking and creativity. The ideal candidate will have

  1. A bachelor’s degree or higher in a field relevant to the research;
  2. A minimum of one year of relevant research experience required—experience gained in school counts towards this requirement; and
  3. Proficiency in R and ideally other programming languages, such as Python, C++, or Julia.

The Research Professional will start in the beginning of July or August, 2020, though earlier start dates will be considered. Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis, with applications submitted by December 16 receiving full consideration. We pay an annual salary of $50,000 and provide standard benefits such as health insurance.
