The Tutoring & Learning Center provides free tutoring & academic support to high school students in Harlem and Morningside Heights. For Spring 2017, we’re working with Columbia Secondary School and Democracy Prep Charter High School.

We are currently recruiting federal work-study tutors for geometry and algebra 2 with our program for spring semester. We work at local high schools, usually in the after-school hours (between 2:30pm and 6pm), with small groups of students to help with homework, review concepts, and prepare for exams, as well as some engage in some mentoring components.

We offer training as well as on-going professional development, and work-study is paid at $15/hour. All of our tutors must be able to clear background checks and complete fingerprinting with the NYC Department of Education. No prior tutoring experience is necessary.

Not work-study eligible? We have two service-learning opportunities! Check out Sociology UN3974 – The Sociology of Schools, Teaching, and Learning (4 unit seminar) or Sociology UN3225 – Design and Analysis of Research on Learning (1 unit seminar).

For more information on any of these options, contact Brian Gray, Director of Tutoring, at brian.gray@columbia.edu, or visit our facebook page atwww.facebook.com/ColumbiaTLC
