The Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) is a 10-week interdisciplinary internship that provides undergraduates with valuable research and professional development experience that prepares them for graduate studies.

SURP interns will:

  • Present research at the Leadership Alliance National Symposium (LANS) as well as a UVA research symposium.
  • Conduct research with UVA faculty and graduate student mentor(s).
  • Participate in workshops on research methods and the graduate school application process, and enroll in a rigorous GRE preparation course.

How we support SURP interns:

  • A $3,000 stipend, and additional travel and meal expenses.
  • Housing throughout the program.
  • A network of mentors and a range of holistic well-being supports.

Eligible interns:

  • Must be a current junior, with 2 semesters or less to complete after summer 2019.
  • Are encouraged to be from an underrepresented background.
  • Other requirements are highlighted on the SURP website.
