Williams College is hosting a hybrid Promoting Inclusion in Economic Research (PIER) conference on Saturday, April 29, 2023. PIER provides an opportunity for undergraduates to present their own economic research and to network with peers and mentors. The conference is targeted towards current undergraduates whose identities or life experiences are under-represented in the field of economics. There will be a keynote presentation by Kehinde Ajayi, co-director of the Gender Equality and Inclusion Program and Senior Fellow at the Center for Global Development.

Students interested in presenting should submit an abstract (400-600 words) that describes the paper’s research question and contribution, the research design, and the theoretical framework or data used, as well as a 150-word description of how the applicant’s participation furthers the goal of promoting an inclusive environment within economics. See the conference website for more details (link below). In addition, individuals may optionally upload a longer document consisting of an extended abstract or a paper draft. Submissions are due March 18 and may be submitted via the conference website: https://sites.google.com/williams.edu/pier/home

The conference will run from approximately 10 am to 4 pm on April 29. We encourage students who are physically near to Williams College to attend in person, although we cannot offer assistance with travel. We invite virtual participation from students for whom traveling to Williamstown is not practical.
