Position description:  Undergraduate research assistant (RA) for research projects in empirical economic analysis

We are looking to hire 1-2 skilled undergraduate students who are interested in working as a RA with Professor Christian Moser of Columbia Business School.

The work will involve analysis of economic and financial microdata pertaining to ongoing research projects managed by the professor. Topics will be drawn from macroeconomics, labor economics, and corporate finance. The RA will receive access to confidential and administrative data that allows for the analysis of patterns in worker and firm heterogeneity.

Candidates should have advanced knowledge of and motivation to learn more technical skills pertaining to the use of statistical and mathematical software including Stata and MATLAB. Having a background in advanced mathematics (linear algebra, optimization) and statistics (regression analysis) is helpful. Knowledge of other software packages is considered a plus. It is expected that the RA will learn skills that are directly useful to their own training in economics, statistics, and mathematics. Successful candidates may build on their experience and data access to write an independent Senior Honors Thesis, plus apply for graduate school in Economics at all competitive programs. The most successful candidates may also be considered for coauthorship on a future research project.

Assignments will be given and remunerated on an hourly basis at USD $15 per hour, starting as soon as possible. Candidates with availability of one semester or longer and those who are able to dedicate a larger number of weekly hours to the job will be preferred.

If interested in applying, please contact the professor directly at c.moser@columbia.edu and attach your CV, a short description of your motivation and relevant background, and availability over the semester(s).
