We are currently recruiting for an Executive Director for J-PAL Africa to lead our teams across the continent and advance key policy and research priorities, including:
  • Girls’ education empowerment
  • Digital identification and improvement of public service delivery
  • Support to African scholars
  • New environmental work based in Cape Town

The Executive Director will be based in Cape Town, South Africa, and will work closely with J-PAL’s global network; this is an exciting opportunity to shape our strategy for these efforts and more. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in research management, operations, or policy outreach experience; a Master’s degree (or higher) in economics, public policy, or a related field; and an interest in and understanding of Development Economics, in particular, randomized evaluations of social policies/ programs. 

The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) is a global network of top researchers from universities worldwide who specialize in conducting randomized evaluations of social policies/programs to generate scientific evidence about what works in the fight against poverty. J-PAL also analyses and disseminates research results, builds partnerships with policymakers and donors and runs training courses to ensure that policy is driven by evidence, to scale up effective programs, and strengthen the capacity of local researchers and policymakers.
