The Masters of Economic Student Association (MESA) of the Economics Department is excited to invite you to attend our Women in Economics event this Friday, Sept 20th. It will be held at Uris #327 and #330 at 4 pm.

This event aims to explore the current challenges as well as opportunities females face in both academia and the business world. We have invited 6 panelists (please check their background info down below), with a Networking section to follow the panel discussion! Food Catering and Drinks will also be served.

Miriam O. : Miriam is currently a Private Equity Director at Grant Thornton and covers private equity clients in the Metro NY market territory. She has over 20 years of experience in the professional services industry across various functions, including investment banking, corporate development, strategy, marketing and economic consulting. Prior to joining Grant Thornton, Miriam was a Director of Business Development/M&A for GE Capital; she also worked in Commercial Advisory at Ernst & Young, in the Mergers & Acquisitions group at Lehman Brothers and as an economic consultant at NERA. Miriam holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and B.S. in Economics from M.I.T.

 Wuwei C.: Wuwei is a Vice President at HSBC, managing deal approval for its investment banking business across the Americas region. Her current focus is strategic innovation investments for HSBC Group. As an executive committee member of HSBC women diversity employee resource group, Wuwei is dedicated to promote gender balanced work force and create career development opportunities for female professionals as well as students. Wuwei received her MBA degree from NYU Stern School of Business, and Bachelors degree in Applied Mathematics and Financial Economics from the University of Rochester. A native Chinese speaker, Wuwei spends her free time in alpine skiing, ballet, coaching, and entrepreneurial engagement.

 Ashley Schloss: Ashely is currently a tech coalition manager at Reboot Representation. She previously worked as an associate consultant at the McKinsey New York office. Ashley received her PhD in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University.

 Stephanie Schmitt-Grohe: Dr. Stephanie Schmitt-Grohe is a professor of Economics at Columbia University and is affiliated with the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), and European Central Bank. Her research focuses on International Macroeconomics and she has authored graduate and undergraduate textbooks on the subject. She received her PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago. 

 Belinda Archibong: Dr. Belinda Archibong is an assistant professor of Economics at Barnard College. Her research interests lie in Development Economics, Political Economy, Economic History, and Environmental Economics, with a regional focus on Africa. Her research investigates the role of institutions and environment in inequality of access to public services and the development of human capital. She received her PhD in Sustainable Development from Columbia University.

 Seyhan Erden: Dr. Seyhan Erden is a lecturer at Columbia University, specializing in Econometrics and Microeconomics, and has taught at several universities including NYU, Northeastern University and CUNY. She is also affiliated with the American Economic Association Committee on the Status of Women in Economic Profession (CSWEP). She received her PhD in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
