Professor Jagdish Bhagwati Awarded 2014 Eccles Prize for Economic Writing

Professor Jagdish Bhagwati and his co-author Professor Arvind Panagriya were recently awarded Columbia Business School’s George S. Eccles Prize for Excellence in Economic Writing.  They received the prize for their book Why Growth Matters: How Economic Growth in India Reduced Poverty and the Lessons for Other Developing Countries, published by PublicAffairs in 2013.  In this book, they argue that economic growth is best encouraged by liberal government policies, with significant consequences for economists, non-government organizations and anti-poverty work worldwide.
