PhD Alum Karnit Flug named Bank of Israel Governor

Karnit Flug, an alum of the department, was recently named Governor of the Bank of Israel.   She is the first woman to hold this position.  Flug was deputy to the previous governor and has been acting chief of the Bank of Israel since Stanley Fisher stepped down in June.  She has previously worked at the International Monetary Fund as an economist and later as a senior research economist at the Inter-American Development Bank.  Governor Flug received her PhD from Columba in 1986 under the supervision of Professors Ron Findlay, Jagdish Bhagwait, Robert Feenstra, Andre Burgstaller, and Robert Shakotko.
